It further states that it is equally important to secure an even distribution of health services in every part of the country as well as to give priority to health education and disease prevention endeavors. Intervention sees start of town camp child health checks

The Central Australian Aboriginal Congress and the Department of Health are coordinating the checks until the end of June. The operational head of the intervention, Major General David Chalmers, says the medical teams are expecting to see about 300 children in that time. He says the consultations are the first step to improving health in town camps. “It’s pointless to just diagnose without taking follow up-action and Government understands that,” he said.

Malteser International has been working in Cambodia, a country still marked by almost 30 years of civil war and genocide, since 1993. While in the beginning, the organisation supported refugees, today it is working for the rehabilitation of the health system in remote regions. In addition to the above mentioned mother-child health programme, Malteser International, with financial support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development Germany, is also building up a community-based health insurance system in Cambodia.
