According to a press release on Friday, Javed said that problems like shortsightedness and malnutrition could be treated at the initial stage, adding that timely vaccination, especially for tuberculosis, of schoolgoing children in far flung areas would be ensured. The Health Department was upgrading 295 Rural Health Centres (RHCs) and 2500 BHUs by providing latest medical equipment and arranging regular training programmes for healthcare workers at Tehseel Head Quarters (THQs) and District Head Quarters (DHQs). Talking to various delegations, Javed said that the Health Department had launched several projects supervised by the National Mother and Child Health (MCH) Programme to provide healthcare facilities to mothers and infants and Rs 31. 5 billion would be spent on the project in five years and the federal, provincial and district governments in their respective jurisdictions would finance it. The project will aim to improve the ability of public and private health care centres, provide, he concluded.
