Compiled by the American Public Health Association and two other organizations the annual report finds that the health of Americans has failed to improve for the fourth straight year. As long as we keep doing what we’re doing as a nation the outlook is bleak and the prognosis is grim. Here’s why:» We spend more money than other countries on medical treatment but get too little in return.

Los Gatos preschool student dies at home from possible meningitis

The child whose identity was not released lived in Santa Cruz County and attended Stratford preschool in Los Gatos. According to health officials the child had not previously displayed any acute symptoms of the disease or complained of pain. Symptoms tend to be flu-like and can include fever lethargy headache skin rashes irritability and seizures stiff neck and photophobia or sensitivity to light. Meningitis is an infection of the spinal cord fluid and the fluid that surrounds the brain according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
