That is why we supported President bama's call during the campaign for a national health-care policy providing quality affordable and portable coverage for all. This will not be easy but it is necessary. The president has already signed into law legislation extending child health-care coverage a proposal repeatedly blocked by his predecessor. And at the president's urging Congress invested in improved health information technology as part of the stimulus relief plan. In his budget proposal President bama called for creating a $634 billion “health reform reserve” to begin financing greater disease prevention efforts wellness programs and research on cost-effective treatments key elements in any plan to reform our health-care system. Funding would come from higher taxes on the wealthy increased Medicare premiums charged to those with a greater ability to pay and savings from improved efficiency. There will be much debate and disagreement over details and many more specifics to come but the important point is that the president is not delaying.
