But the proposal is drawing fire from the Louisiana Maternal and Child Health Coalition which argues some physicians will quit participating in the government-funded health insurance program that primarily serves children. State government should create incentives by paying extra instead of cutting a reimbursement that is already inadequate coalition staffer Sandra Adams said. “It is another cut in pay for doctors. ”Adams said physicians are already facing a 7 percent cut in Medicaid reimbursement rates for services they deliver. Levine said he plans to put a notice out of his agency’s intention to implement the performance-based program in the coming weeks with a January start date.

Health care tops agenda for Kids Caucus
The News Journal
The caucus an ad hoc group that focuses on education health and other topics that affect children is focusing on 13 legislative issues this session. Among them: Health insurance for children. The caucus is pushing legislation to remove the premium for the Delaware Children’s Health Insurance Program; to extend CHIP’s coverage to include families whose incomes fall at or under 200 percent of the federal poverty level; and to extend dental coverage to pregnant Medicaid recipients. Also pending are bills to require insurers to extend dental coverage to children with disabilities and to allow families who do not qualify for CHIP to buy into the program. Child care: Pending bills would continue fair-market studies to determine the cost of child care and require that state-reimbursed providers receive at least 75 percent of that cost within two years of the bill’s passage.
