The student is currently recovering at home health officials said in a press release. The child’s condition age grade and name were not released but parents were told to maintain proper hygiene among their children in a letter sent to parents. “Health insurance premiums increased six times as fast as Texas wages over an eight-year period Families USA recently said in separate report. Annual health insurance premiums from 2000 to 2007 in Texas rose from $6638 to $12403 an 86 percent increase; the state’s median earnings during the same period increased from $23032 to $26484 or 15 percent. In Texas monthly health insurance premiums for a typical two-parent one-child family are $800 to $1050 a month. The typical family in the Dallas-Plano-Irving area spends $3130 a month on housing food child care transportation and taxes according to estimates from the Center for Public Policy Priorities an Austin-based nonprofit consumer advocate. Adding insurance at current prices could increase that family’s monthly budget 34 percent.

A case for paid sick days
San Francisco Chronicle
population gets seasonal influenza (the flu) more than 200000 people are hospitalized from flu complications and about 36000 people die. Guaranteeing paid sick days to workers is an important step toward preventing spread of illness and promoting public health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention instructs people who get sick to stay home from work or school to keep from infecting others. For almost half of workers nationally this is easier said than done. These workers who do not earn any paid sick days are asked to make an incredibly difficult choice: follow medical advice and lose pay or keep a job and potentially infect others.

Children’s Health Insurance Program bill passes in House
Dallas Morning News
Both bills would make only a small dent in a big problem: Texas’ 1. 5 million uninsured children. Still they will probably be the big victory for child advocates and health care providers pushing for broader children’s coverage in this legislative session. Coleman said legislative leaders rejected a more costly proposal this week to expand Medicaid’s rolls by nearly 260000 children. It would have let their families renew coverage annually instead of every six months. Budget writers though balked at the $300 million two-year cost Coleman said and he dropped the provision along with a separate Democratic proposal to ease limits on how expensive a car some CHIP families can drive.

Hey J. Lo! When it Comes to My Child’s Health Care? “BUTT UT!”

ver the next few weeks my daughter who was 18 months old at the time came down with symptoms along with the rest of us. I got in touch with the county health department knowing at that point that our doctor was worthless and based on symptomatology of the classic cases all the kids had and the symptoms my husband and I had we were all confirmed by the county public health nurse as having pertussis. During this time my daughter was seen at the same clinic (by a different doctor at my request) and she was diagnosed with pneumonia and a bi-lateral ear infection which are common secondary infections of pertussis. During this same time frame one of my close girlfriend?s children came down with the cold symptoms and then her son was having the coughing spasms and then vomiting. Her oldest is the same age as my oldest and her youngest two weeks younger than my oldest daughter. They were both up to date on their vaccines as well.
