Refusing to immunize raises kids’ health risks
Denver Post
Polio-stricken children in wheelchairs are images typically confined to old photographs. The terrifying wheeze of a child with whooping cough is virtually unknown. And who among us has seen someone gone rigid with tetanus? Unfamiliarity with the horrors of such diseases is likely one reason why a small minority of parents decline to vaccinate their children against preventable diseases. Yet those parents are putting their children — and others — at significant and avoidable risk. A new study by a Kaiser Permanente Colorado researcher showed children who were not immunized were 23 times more likely to get whooping cough. It shouldn’t come as a great surprise that children who are not vaccinated against preventable diseases are more likely to get these dangerous maladies.

Posted by: Elanor | May 27 2009 11:03:54 AM. This is such a blatant example of big business (in this case the multi-billion $ plastic bag industry) battling to save its industry against rising tide of legislation and consumer backlash against wasteful over consumption of plastic bags and the sensible movement towards reusable shopping bags. ne of the inflammatory articles i saw on this industry funded study was titled "Reusable Grocery Bags May Poison You" – I kid you not. Ireland successfully cut their plastic bag consumption by a whopping 90% with a simple formula – the NLY collateral damage came at the expense of the plastic bag industry. 6 later years & it is still working just fine.
